This weekend, 2/21-2/23, ten members of Sig Ep, Wa Beta traveled to Los Angeles, California to attend the Carlson Leadership Academy. Carlson Leadership Academy (CLA) provides our Executive Board with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills, explore the responsibilities of their positions, and build relationships with other chapters.
CLA began on Friday evening with a conference-wide leadership orientation. We focused on identifying our values, polishing our communication skills, and connecting with leaders from other chapters. This event set the stage for Saturday’s deep-dive into our respective Exec positions, and how we can best perform them.
On Saturday, after breakfast and a brief awards ceremony, we attended workshops regarding our positions. We spent the majority of Saturday in these small groups. By the end of the day, we had addressed the challenges of our positions, shared our insight with other chapters, and developed a plan to overcome those obstacles. Armed with lots of helpful information about our positions, we finished the weekend with a group dinner and final awards ceremony.
As leaders of our chapter, we were blown away by the value of attending the Carlson Leadership Academy. The experience helped us define our chapter’s needs, set goals for ourselves as leaders, and plan accordingly. After CLA, our Executive Board is really looking forward to the year ahead and we appreciate all the support!
